RE-model
re·mod·el
/rēˈmädl/
verb
- change the structure or form of (something, especially a building):”the station was remodeled and enlarged in 1927″
We moved into our home a little over 16 years ago. When we purchased it, it was 7 years old and needed a bit of work. We slowly changed major things like floors, cabinets, stair case railing and then we STOPPED.
For about 7 years my husband and I talked about what we’d like to do with our master bath. SERIOUSLY, 7 years. We’d get bursts of ideas and inspiration and do nothing about it. It slowly became a joke….”the bathroom talk again”. Well a few months ago the topic came up again, this time while I was in my “funk” of feeling kind of lost. When David brought it up this time, something in me snapped. I said go get the sledge hammer and lets break the tub (we had a large Jacuzzi tub in the bathroom). I felt like if we just took the leap and trashed it, we’d HAVE to do the remodel. So, that’s how our master bath remodel came about.
We literally broke our tub into a million pieces without a plan or design. It was actually invigorating. We both became really inspired and creative. We came up with a design which involved moving the tub and shower into different areas. I had been holding on to a picture frame for years that was to be my color inspiration for the bathroom. I dug that out and we got busy.
It was fantastic working side by side on a project that really in the end, was meant for the two of us to enjoy. From picking out the tile, backsplash, floor, paint color, sinks, shower fixtures and lighting, it gave us so much to do together. I do know the fact David was able to actually do the physical work was a huge plus. It took more than 2 ½ months of sweat, thousands of trips up and down the stairs, more trips to Home Depot than I can count and a few disagreements here and there. In the end it was a family affair that brought us all together. The girls helped me paint the vanity, they helped David skim the walls and grout and at the end of the day gave us all something we were really proud of. I LOVE my beautiful open walk in shower (so do our girls…they use it all the time too!).
Taking the leap to just jump in and get started on this project was a huge lesson in motivation and how doing something scary can propel you to something fantastic!
So I say…RE-model! It can be as simple as changing paint color, RE-arranging the furniture, changing linens, getting a few new items…anything! It will change your outlook and in my case anyway, made me more productive in other areas of my life.
I will post the full construction video soon for anyone interested in the entire process!
HAVE FUN!!!!
